Luton – Vauxhall’s long-standing Director, Communications, Denis Chick, has been honoured by Newspress, picking up the Lifetime Achievement Award at last night’s ceremony.

Now in their second year, the Newspress Awards recognise excellence in automotive journalism and PR. Denis is a communications stalwart, known industry-wide for being ever-present in the automotive world since he began his career as an apprentice in 1965.

The Lifetime Achievement Award comes as he celebrates 15 years as part of General Motors’ communications team, and over fifty years in the automotive industry overall. Having started at The Rover Company, Denis moved through several engineering roles into Product Planning and Marketing before joining the PR team in 1985.

He later went on to become Director of Product Communications, Rover Group in 1994 before leaving the business in 2000, 35 years after starting at the company.

After a two-year spell at Trafficmaster, Denis joined General Motors in 2002, initially in the role of PR and Marketing Manager for, the then embryonic, GM Daewoo UK. That role transitioned into a multi-brand remit covering all GM brands sold in the UK. Denis was appointed Director, Communications for Vauxhall Motors in 2009, and has since overseen launch programmes for several of the company’s most successful models.

“I have had such a privileged career and have been able to see the world, building long-term relationships with some fantastic people along the way,” said Denis Chick. “I’ve launched many new cars and seen numerous crises come and go in my time, so I'm well equipped for whatever the industry may throw at me. Every minute has been enjoyable but I think I have a few years left in me yet.”
